Dayton! Dayton! Dayton!

Posted on

Friday night was the quarterly Dayton Swing Club Dance.  This snowball themed party had a live band for the first half and welcomed two local DJs for the second half.  There was a record 99 people in attendance.

The Dayton Swing scene’s reputation is growing steadily.  I first heard about Dayton as a hot spot for swing dancing just after I first started dancing, about a year ago.  It wasn’t until fairly recently that I realized the Dayton scene was as big as it is.  Part of the reason why the area has such a reputation is that people there travel.  There’s a big exchange of dancers between Columbus, Dayton, Athens and Cincinnati.  This has created a tight community with a few different groups.  Each group has its own identity, Columbus is very knowledgeable.  The city has a great pool of experience dancers.  Athens is young.  Its a new, rising club with a lot of fresh faces.  I haven’t been dancing in Cincinnati long enough to know about its scene, but from what I’ve seen, it seems like a pretty lively one.  The word to describe Dayton in friendly.  There’s a large group of people and they’re willing to take in people from all over the place.

Friday’s dance was filled with great music, friends and, of course, fantastic dancing.  There were line dances, jam circle and the Peanuts’ Theme song to keep everyone dancing all night long.

So, if you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth looking into.

Feel free to leave a comment, I’m always open for new input.  And, if you ask nicely, I can put you in contact with some fabulous swing dancers.
